(Pierce, my fourteen year-old son)
Today, my son Pierce relates our experience putting out signs for the screen repair/window cleaning company we just founded. It looks as though we’re off to a great start đ
Today my Dad picked me up from school. As we were headed home we noticed some signs for a small aeration company. These signs were so strategically placed that they were hard not to notice. So, we decided to put up signs for our window screen repair company. We put them in many places similar to those of the aeration signs. Many of them were in the same place. We could tell this would bring us much business.
It was very important to get these signs in a good spot. So, we decided to put them by the road on intersections. This way when people stop, they will have time to look at the sign. We also angled the sign so it is easiest to read. Most of the intersections that we put them at were around a shopping center. We knew that there would be more people there which means more people to see the sign.
We did this about half an hour after school so that there would be no traffic. It was after everybody was out of school but before” rush hour”. Nighttime is also a great time to do it. My Dad would pull up to an intersection, I would get out real fast, put the sign in the ground, and hop back in the car real fast. It is important to not hold up traffic.
About an hour after my dad and I were finished putting up signs ( Which cost about $60 in total) we got our first call. A customer said that he needed three screen doors to be fixed. We charge $39 for each screen door. If you subtract about $6 per screen for materials, we make a profit of about $100 for an hour and a half work. The cost for the signs already paid for themselves with the first job that we got!
My Dad had planned on putting the signs out with me on the weekend but I wanted to do them right away. Good thing too because we’re already getting paid! The signs only cost about $60 for 6 and we’ll probably get many more calls. We’ll end up buying more signs because you get a lower price when you buy a lot. Instead of $10 a sign it could be $4 a sign. We used Bandit Signs:
Okay, back to Dad (me) ! I’m so proud of my son not only for pushing me to make the signs run sooner, but also for writing this blog post. Nice going, son!
Weâre impressed by your entrepreneurial spirit and get it done attitude.

Thanks guys! Hey, it looks like we are expanding big-time because now rather than just individual customers, we are getting picked up by insurance companies, contractors and property management. Can you point us in the right direction for volume buying of screen material?
Keep Stepping,
Kurt
