School’s NOT out… but my excuses are.

Today’s Post: Update on how my social marketing edu-macation is going, and restating my claim on making a thousand bucks from scratch …on a Shoestring . 😎 I recently learned a collection of new zero-cost marketing techniques that I’ll be using to make that happen!

The product I’m trying to create from scratch and promote is a PDF with supporting video that will help users get to a level of 100 pushups. Take a look at this project in its current state at www.howtodo100pushups.com.

SO, Steppers… in the last post I mentioned that the rules have all changed since the last information product I created.

Back in 2002, I wrote a book about trading the stock market and it sold over a million dollars’ worth of units plus related products…

But, uh. That was 2002.

Facebook wasn’t around. Dunno if YouTube was. If so, I didn’t know how to use it to promote my products yet.

So when I made the claim last October that I could make a $1,000 profit from scratch, I guess there was a learning curve to deal with as well. In my most recent post I described my success, or (ahem!) LACK of it so far, with a promise to you that I’d go back to school and figger some of this stuff out.

(Disclaimer and notice: I’m getting ready to share with you MY go-to guy in the realm of Facebook Marketing. While I sometimes post affiliate links… that is, links that can create a commission for me… I NEVER post something that I haven’t personally used. In this particular case, I’ll post something that I HAVE used, but I don’t have an affiliate relationship with them. Yet. So be apprised that mey giving you this info has no motive but that of this entire blog… to help YOU learn to make your business marketing rock… on a Shoestring)

So I have a Facebook page up for my 100 pushups thang… and it’s been up for more than a year. It’s not put together like a proper business fan page.  I just slapped it together on a whim and was using it as a support system for Students at my martial arts studio. So far, it has 122 likes… NOT impressive for a page that’s been up for a year, but then again I haven’t actively promoted it.

Enter my wife’s fan page. By using principles that I picked up from Brian Moran at www.get10000fans.com, Sabrina has leveraged her page… at ZERO COST… to over 133 fans in JUST A FEW DAYS.

Hmm.

I wanted to make this post today to record exactly where my fan page is right now, in terms of fans. Also, to record here and now what my efforts have been so far since my assertion in October that I’d make a grand from an info product that I haven’t even made yet.

I have:

A  fan page on Facebook with, so far, 122 fans (free)

A number of videos I posted to YouTube (free)

The domain names www.howtodo100pushups.com and www.icando100pushups.com ($11.60 for a year)

A wordpress blog with a “squeeze page”

Hosting for the blog ($8.99/month)

14 email subscribers from the above squeeze page

Two satisfied customers at $5

…and that’s it. The $5 customers bought, “I will show you how to do 100 pushups for $5” on Fiverr.com, and I sent them email instructions and links to my videos on YouTube.

Now, here’s what I intend to do;

Using instructions from Brian Moran at Get 10,000 Fans, I’m going to leverage the power of Facebook and send boo-koo traffic away from my Fan Page… to the squeeze page. As I continue to capture emails, I’ll be sending updates to everyone about the status of my “How to do 100 Pushups” PDF/Video project.

Each of these updates will be “re-purposed” several times: basically the same content will be sent as an email… recorded into a video at YouTube… reposted in Facebook… tweeted and twittered and blogged, oh my! 😉

This is my favorite”Cheat” hint: each update above will actually BE a chapter… so that as I’m writing to my loyal Subscribers, I’ll also be compiling the PDF book  plus supporting video itself. This worked for me before with the stock market trading book I wrote about above.

As I continue to get free traffic to my Fan Page, and interact with Subscribers on Facebook, YouTube, and the blog… I’ll issue challenges to them to complete. This is to get folks to start taking action and actually doing something with the content. The idea is to do more than make  sales, but rather to create a community. It also opens the door to get their feedback for making my community’s desired improvements to the “100 Pushups” PDF/Video product… AS I’m creating it! ( in case you didn’t pick that up, I’m using Shoestring Step Three: Learn To Create Value)

Here’s a surprising admission: Hopefully, I’ll get a few haters and critics along the way. Nothing would be more productive for driving new Subscribers and, ultimately, sales. It’s kind of counterintuitive, but true: having detractors will create more discussion, and therefore more traffic. If someone is actively decrying my claim that almost anyone can get to a level of performance with their body that they can do 100 pushups in a row… they’ll be shining a light on the claim. And since the program actually works, soon I’ll have an army of people defending my claim and speaking louder for the “100 Pushups” PDF/Video product than I possibly could on my own.

Okay, gang! That’s where we are. Glad I went back to school. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Get 10,000 fans as a company and I don’t get any promotional consideration for saying that. Watch as I blow it out of the water with the new info I’m armed with.

Keep Stepping!

Kurt
